Church of San Paolo |
Church of Sant'Andrea: This church, thought to have been founded in the 8th century, was enlarged in the mid-12th century. It took on its present Gothic appearance after 1306, following the demolition of the second set of city walls. The pinnacled white marble doorway is topped by a statue of St. James, the patron saint of Pistoia, while the tympanum has a statue of St. Paul by Iacopo di Mazzeo (1302) at its centre. The works of art inside from different periods include a wooden Crucifix (1300s), a Holy Conversation by Fra' Paolino (1528), frescoed figures of St. Agatha and St. Eulalia by Gerino Gerini. The oratory of San Gaetano adjoining the church dates back to 1394, but took on its present form in the 1600s. It has a symmetrical façade with a stone doorway. |
