NON-PROFIT FOUNDATION AND ARCHIVE LUIGI TRONCI

The Non-profit Luigi Tronci Foundation was started in 2008 as a music and percussion museum, and also as a document archive.
The collection of the foundation is mostly an accumulation of percussion instruments whose historic value is linked to the activity of the Tronci family. This family from Pistoia has, since the 18th century, been committed to the manufacture of musical instruments, beginning with church organs and progressing onto an infinite range of idiophones; metal musical instruments such as bells, gongs, tam tams, and a variety of rattles. The collection was further enhanced by Luigi Tronci who is the current president of the UFIP in Pistoia which is a factory which produces hand made cymbals for drums that are held in high renown all over the world. The collection is only partially on display at the foundation. It includes: instruments from Africa, Asia, China, Japan and South America; instruments that belong to the European and Italian folk tradition; instruments linked to musical theatre, many of which were donated to the Foundation by the Ricordi of Milan record company; ancient instruments and old machines for iron work in the foundries and a wide heritage of books and documents. The Foundation also has a small music library with a personal computer and internet access where it is possible read books, do research, and of course, listen to music. The principal goal of the Luigi Tronci Foundation is to pass on musical culture to the younger generation and to encourage interaction with musical instruments. Guided school visits and laboratories are organised for children of every age and level.
